KARACHI (Staff Report) – An anti-terrorism court Wednesday extended the judicial remand of former PPP minister Dr Asim Hussain till February 9.
During the hearing, legal counsel for Dr Asim argued that his client was in the custody of law enforcement agencies for last six months and still the institutions have not submitted the final charges. My client was being harassed for no reason, he added.
On the occasion, the judge also asked prosecution that how many more days he needs to complete the investigation. At which the prosecution lawyer told him that NAB has progressed a lot in investigation, however the process was not completed yet.
The court extended Dr Asim remand till February 9, directing NAB officials to provide the accused with best medical facilities.
Dr Asim’s family pleaded to the court that one of the family member shoudl be allowed to stay with him, however the judge rejected the request.
The judge ordered NAB to deploy security in proper uniforms to protect Dr Asim Hussain.
