Fazlur Rehman Rejects Govts Draft On Constitutional Amendments

ISLAMABAD – Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Maulana Fazlur Rehman has stated that the government’s draft on constitutional amendments has been completely rejected.

He further remarked, “Now they are saying it wasn’t even their draft. What was the game with the draft that was provided earlier?”

In an informal conversation with the media at the residence of PTI leader Asad Qaiser, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said, “I came to Asad Qaiser’s place to have lunch, nothing more.”

Maulana Fazlur Rehman reiterated that the government’s draft was entirely unacceptable. “Now they claim it wasn’t their draft, but the one previously provided was unacceptable after reviewing it. Supporting it would have been a great betrayal to the nation.”

Meanwhile, he avoided commenting on the alleged conversation of PTI founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail.

Media reports mentioned that PTI leaders, including former president Arif Alvi and Raoof Hasan, also attended the luncheon. Asad Qaiser had invited Maulana Fazlur Rehman for lunch during his visit to his residence the previous day.

Government and opposition delegations had met with Maulana Fazlur Rehman to gain his support for the constitutional amendments, with Asad Qaiser being particularly active in the efforts. Arif Alvi had also met with Maulana.
