Ministry of Law approves formation of judicial commission to probe Panama leaks scandal

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Ministry of Law and Justice on Wednesday approved formation of Judicial Commission to investigate Panama leaks scandal while Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will decide name of the head of the commission.

The ministry has taken decision for formation of the commission to investigate the Panama leaks scandal under Inquiry Commission Act 1956. However, head of the commission would decide term of references of the commission.

The decision was taken in a meeting on Wednesday in which Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid, Secretary Law Justice (retd) Raza Khan and other participated.

The commission, whose head would be chosen by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, will be given 45-day time to investigate the allegations.

Under the 1956 Inquiry Commission Act, the commission can summon any citizen as witness and record from any department. The government departments will be responsible to obey the orders of the commission.
