MADRID (Web Desk) – Spain’s interim Industry Minister José Manuel Soria resigned from the government on Friday morning after a series of media revelations about his offshore business activities in other countries and tax havens snowballed at the minister’s own insistence over the course of the week.
He also resigned as an MP and as the chairman of the regional Popular Party in the Canary Islands.
Mr. Soria had been due to attend the weekly cabinet meeting on Friday morning but, by Thursday evening, several Spanish media outlets were reporting other members of the government and senior Popular Party leaders were finding it difficult to defend him in public.
He had also been set to appear before parliament on Monday morning to explain his version of events.
