SC restores 50 quota for government Hajj scheme

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Supreme Court of Pakistan has restored 50% quota for private and government Hajj schemes, settling a plea that challenged decrease in quota for private Hajj scheme.

According to Hajj Policy 2016, Sixty percent pilgrims were supposed to perform Hajj under the Government scheme while forty percent through Hajj Group Organizers. However the policy was challenged in SC.

As a result, the balloting under government Hajj scheme, which was scheduled to be held in Islamabad on April 29, was also postponed.

The Religious Ministry has received 2,80,617 applications for government Hajj scheme this year. Some 72,000 pilgrims will now be selected through balloting to perform Hajj under this scheme.

The remaining 50% pilgrims will travel to Saudi Arabia for Hajj through private travel firms.
