Iftikhar Chaudhry demands PM Nawaz s resignation over Panama Papers

LAHORE (Staff Report) – Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has demanded thw immediate resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, following allegations of money laundering leveled at the latter after the Panama leaks.

Addressing the press in Lahore, Chaudhry, who formed a political party named Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party after his retirement as CJP, said that Nawaz Sharif was doing everything in his power to avoid accountability against allegations of money laundering and tax evasion.

He, however, said that current government should complete its constitutional tenure of five years, adding that Nawaz Sharif solely doesn’t represent the government.

To a question, the former Chief Justice said that his party supported the idea of ruthless accountability and would back any efforts to increase accountability in government.

On the occasion, he also criticised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for avoiding questions raised by parliamentarians. What is he scared of, why Nawaz Sharif doesn’t go to the National Assembly and the Senate? he said.
