Karachi crackdown against criminals alone: PM Nawaz

KARACHI (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that the Karachi operation was initiated after taking all the parties into confidence and only aimed at targeting criminals not any specific political party, Dunya News reported.

Addressing a award ceremony held at Karachi Stock Exchange, the premier felicitated the winning companies and wished them luck for their future plans.

“Pakistan is facing many challenges for which we are working seriously to eliminate the problems from the country,” he added.

Talking about Bhasha Dam, Nawaz Sharif assured to make it a bigger reservoir than Mangala and Rawal dams.

He said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was keen to curb terrorism from the country as operation Zarb-e-Azb has destroyed all the hideouts of terrorists. Lauding the achievements of Pakistan Army, he said that the armed forces played their provident role.

“Karachi operation was initiated in September 2013 by taking all the parties into confidence whereas government with a help of administration has tried to make Karachi free from terrorism, target killing, kidnapping for ransom and street crimes as we want to make Karachi a peaceful heaven for the citizen,” he added.

PM Nawaz further wished to have friendly relations with the neighboring country India and has also urged the lndian leadership to initiate table talks.

Moreover, he further vowed to overcome gas and electricity loadshedding as early as possible for the restoration of economical development in the country.

The prime minister is in the port city on a day-long visit to review law and order in the Sindh capital.

Earlier, the premier landed at PAF base in Karachi where Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Governor Ishratul Ibad received him.

A high-level meeting is also scheduled at Governor House in which Chief Minister, Governor and heads of police and Rangers will participate.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders are also hopeful of meeting the prime minister during his stay in Karachi. MQM leader Farooq Sattar said they are yet to receive a response over the meeting.

On Tuesday, in his meeting with MNAs, the prime minister expressed satisfaction over ‘considerable reduction’ in crimes in Karachi what he called a result of anti-criminal crackdown by Rangers and police.
