27kg heroin hidden on PIA plane caught just before being smuggled out of country

LAHORE (Web Desk) -A huge cache of heroin has been seized from a Pakistan International Airlines aircraft, the PIA sources said Wednesday.

The drugs were concealed in lavatory panels and were discovered during routine maintenance at the PIA hangar at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport.

The aircraft had arrived from Lahore on the evening of May 24 and was expected to fly to Europe later, but sent to the hangar for routine maintenance instead.

This is not the first time illegal drugs were caught being smuggled out of country in this way. The authorities were aware of this but have been unable to make arrests till now.

The drugs were confiscated by Customs and Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) officials at Karachi airport. An investigation into the incident has been initiated.

Later, the PIA spokesperson regretted the incident and said the airline’s management was extending full cooperation to investigating agencies and conducting its own inquiry as well.
