ISLAMABAD – A three-member special court on Tuesday ordered respective authorities to immediately freeze the bank accounts and confiscate all the properties of former President General (retd.) Pervez Musharraf.
Announcing the order over the non-appearance of Pervez Musharraf before the court despite repeated notices, Chief Justice Peshawar High Court Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel also adjourned the hearing of the high treason case until the former president is arrested or he surrenders.
The court ruled that under the law no further proceedings of the case can be conducted in the absence of the accused.
“The behaviour of the accused left no option for the court, and the special court ordered authorities to freeze Musharraf’s bank accounts and confiscate his property and a compliance report of the orders must be submitted to the court,” the court ordered.
On the occasion, Musharraf’s legal counsel informed the court that his client was ailing and currently not present in Pakistan.
He also requested the court to allow the former president to record his statement via Skype, however, it was dismissed by the court.
It is also worth mentioning here that a high treason case is underway against Pervez Musharraf for suspending the constitution of Pakistan and imposing a situation of emergency in the country in November 2007.
His name was placed on Exit Control List (ECL) until March 18 when the Interior Ministry announced to strike it off after the Supreme Court upheld the Sindh High Court order to remove his name from the ECL.
