Violation of electoral rules: ECP serves notice on Hamza Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday issued a show cause notice to Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) MNA and son of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Hamza Shehbaz over violating electoral rules in NA-63 Jhelum.

As per details, District Election Commissioner Jhelum Khursheed Alam has issued show cause notice to Hamza Shehbaz over campaigning for the by-elections in NA-63 Jhelum after the schedule of election announced.

He has been told to submit a written reply within 48 hours. The commissioner has stated that Election Commission of Pakistan will take action if he failed to reply to the notice.

Hamza Shahbaz had toured the constituency with the party candidate for the local bodies elections Raja Matloob Mehdi. The candidate has also been issued show cause notice along with the son of chief minister.

According to ECP rules and regulations, the prime minister, chief ministers, parliamentarians or any of their appointed officials have been prohibited to be involved in the campaign for polls after the election schedule is announced.

The seat had become vacant following the death of National Assembly member Nawabzada Iqbal Mehdi. The polling will take place on Wednesday, 31st August.
