KARACHI (Staff Report) – The last phase of the local government elections will be held in Sindh on Wednesday (today) as scheduled to elect mayors, deputy mayors along with municipal chairmen and vice-chairmen.
The elections for the mayor of Karachi will be held between MQM’s Waseem Akhtar and PPP’s Ikramullah Wasey.
Polls will be held to elect at the KMC Old Building at will commence at 9AM and will continue till 5PM without any interval, where 308 local government representatives will exercise their right to vote.
The Election Commission has written a letter to jail authorities to present mayor-nominee Waseem Akhtar to cast his vote in the elections.
Meanwhile, the candidates for Sukkur and Larkana were declared as winners unopposed. MQM’s Nehal Hashmi has also been elected unopposed as chairman of Karachi East district.
Earlier, Election Commission of Pakistan said that local body’s mayor and deputy mayor election scheduled for August 24 would be held as scheduled and notification regarding the election had been issued.
