Nine killed as car bomb attack rocks police HQ in Cizre, Turkey

ANKARA (News Desk) – At least nine people died and over 50 were left injured in Turkey’s city of Cizre when a car bomb blast rocked the police headquarters on Friday.

Immediately after the blast, the rescue teams and law enforcement agencies reached the site and rushed the injured to the hospitals.

According to the media reports, most of the victims were police officials. Hospital administration said that the number casualties could rise as many of the wounded were said to be in serious condition.

The targeted building of police headquarters was left completely destroyed while several other buildings were also damaged.

Meanwhile, state-run Anadolu News Agency blamed the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) for the blast. However, there was no formal claim for the attack by any of the militant groups operating in the region.

The attack came just two days after Turkey’s ground troops entered into Syria to fight the militants of the Islamic State group which was also blamed for several terrorist attacks in Turkey.

It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that the city of Cizre is located in Sirnak province of Turkey, which borders with both Syria and Iraq and the vast majority of the province is  Kurdish population.
