NEW YORK – Maleeha Lodhi on Monday said that Pakistan supports the expansion of non-permanent seats in the Security Council.
Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi was addressing the UN General Assembly on the topic of Security Council Reform.
Lodhi said that process of reform will make the platform more democratic, accountable and effective.
She stated that the long deadlock in the way of reforms is due to certain states.
“These states want the self-arrogated right to unequal status,” she added.
Pakistan is firmly against the expansion of permanent members’ seats, she said, adding that new permanent seats are the antithesis of UN charter principles.
