Legendary poet Faiz Ahmad Faiz remembered on death anniversary

ISLAMABAD – The death anniversary of legendary poet and writer Faiz Ahmed Faiz was observed on Sunday.

Faiz’s literary work and poetry have influenced Urdu literature all over the world.

The government awarded country’s highest civilian award Nishan-e-Imtiaz to Faiz Ahmed Faiz in 1990 in recognition of his services in literature.

His poetry has been translated into several languages including Russian and English. The major literary works of Faiz include Naqsh-e-Faryadi, Dast-e-Saba,Zindan-Nama, Dast-e-Tah-e-Sung, Mere Dil Mere Musafir and Sar-e-Wadi-e-Sina. Faiz Ahmad Faiz’s poetry has been translated into many languages, including English and Russian.

Faiz was the first Asian poet to receive the Lenin Peace Prize awarded by the Soviet Union in 1962. In 1976 he was awarded the Lotus Prize for Literature. He was also nominated for the Nobel Prize shortly before his death in 1984.-Online
