Contact SC to get YouTube unblocked: PTA

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Director General Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Nisar Ahmad on Saturday stated that only the Supreme Court of Pakistan could order the unblocking of YouTube, suggesting those who want the website resumed to contact the apex court.

DG PTA, in his brief interaction with media persons, said that the authority is fully aware that YouTube is still accessible on mobile phone devices and PTI doesn’t have capability to block this access. He stated that PTA has no such technical ability to block the access to YouTube through proxy servers and mobile phone protocols.

He went on to say that the terrorist organizations use advanced technology to operate their accounts online and PTA is taking measures to put a check to such accounts.

Pakistan had blocked the world’s largest video website YouTube in September 2012 after some blasphemous videos were published on the network and Google downed the request to remove the content.
