5.5 magnitude earthquake hits Peshawar, northern areas

PESHAWAR (Web Desk) – A 5.5 magnitude earthquake jolted Peshawar and surrounding areas on Tuesday in a series of tremors felt in northern areas since Saturday, local media reported on Tuesday.

There were no immediate reports of damages or casualties reported so far.

The earthquake was also felt in Swat, Dir and parts of Malakand division, reports said.

Pak-Afghan border near Tajikistan was epicenter of the earthquake which struck at a depth of 144 kilometres, the US Geological Survey said.

It said the tremors were measured 5.5 on the Richter Scale.

On Sunday, earthquake tremors measuring 7.2 magnitude on the Richter Scale shook parts of India and Pakistan, a day after more powerful quakes killed hundreds of people in Nepal.
