BEIJING – Liu Yunshan, member of the standing committee of the politburo of the CPC central committee, hosted Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Monday.
Former prime ministers of Italy, Greece, and France, Secretary General of African Political Parties’ council, and other leaders from around the world were also invited.
“Connectivity of the people” under OBOR was discussed in detail, being a subject on which CM Shehbaz delivered a very concise and cogent speech on Sunday at the Belt & Road Forum (BRF).
Earlier on Monday, Shehbaz Sharif held meeting with a delegation of a famous Chinese company in housing sector, Rainbow, in Beijing and invited them to invest in the sector in Punjab in order to directly benefit the common man.
The delegation, which was headed by company’s President Ding Jian Wei, expressed their interest in investing in construction of low-cost housing in Punjab.
During the meeting, Shehbaz said that the provincial government was following an agenda of public welfare, adding that owning their own home gave people a sense of security.
In this regard, the Punjab government launched Ashiana Scheme which was largely hailed by public, adding that such projects needed to be expanded.
The government has chalked out a plan to provide houses to low-income people of the society, he said, adding that Chinese investment in this sector would be appreciated.
Ding Jian Wei said that they were willing to invest in low cost housing projects and will promote entrepreneurship with Punjab government.
The chief minister also held meetings with delegation of Hisense Group, Huawei Technologies, ZTE and other companies to convince them to invest in Pakistan.
