KARACHI – Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) authorities on Sunday identified one of two attackers as possible suspect who carried out an assassination attempt on the life of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan on Saturday morning.
One of the assailants was killed in exchange of gunfire after police chased them, but the other managed to escape. The deceased assailant has been identified as Hassaan, an engineer and a resident of the Sohrab Goth area.
Hassaan’s father, Dr Israr, is a lecturer at an educational institution.
According to media reports, Hassaan had recently gotten into a brawl with workers of a political party over a dispute involving extortion money.
After identification, CTD personnel raided the house of the alleged attacker in Sohrab Goth and arrested his family members, including his father.
The subject has been identified.”Our investigation is continuing. However, police are unable to provide further details on the investigation,” IG Sindh AD Khawaja said in statement issued to media.
“We will share the detailed investigation with media once completed”, the IG added.
MQM-P leader’s security guard and a child were killed and five others were injured.
