KARACHI (APP) – The Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre, Pakistan Meteorological Department in its updated alert Wednesday said ASHOBAA is likely to intensify further during next 12 hrs and keep moving west-northwestward towards Oman coast.
Ashobaa, the Tropical Cyclone over west-central Arabian Sea was said to be presently centered at Lat 21.3N and Long 61.5E about 650 km southwest of Karachi and 400 km east-southeast of Masqat (Oman).
Abdul Qayoom Bhutto, Director, Cyclone Warning Centre (Karachi), PMD, commenting on the issue said the sea conditions are likely to remain rough along Sindh coast and very rough along Makran coast (Pasni, Gwadar and Jiwani) accompanied with strong winds and maximum surge of 12-15 ft.
Warning the fishermen of Sindh and Balochistan, he said those in Sindh are advised not to venture in open sea till Wednesday evening and fishermen of Balochistan must not venture in open sea till Thursday.
Under the influence of the existent system he said an extended clouds band prevails over Makran coast and south Punjab due to which scattered rain/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected in southwest Balochistan (Pasni, Gwadar, Turbat, Kech and Jiwani) during next 24/36 hrs (with gradual increase in rainfall intensity from moderate to heavy) and over south Punjab.
All stakeholders and concerned authorities have been advised to keep themselves abreast about weather advisories of PMD during next two days to cope with the situation.
