AIOU upgrades educational facilities for disabled

ISLAMABAD – Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has further upgraded its educational facilities for disabled and visually impaired persons.

It has set up a separate counter here at its main campus for disabled persons, facilitating them in their educational pursuits.

The University provides them free education, as part of its policy of accommodating marginalized sections of the people.

This is the first time in the University’s history that the disabled were being given special treatment in availing the educational amenities.

During the new admissions begins from Ist of coming month, the physically handicapped people will be fully assisted in the admission’s process by the directorate officials.

It has been planned to establish similar counters at the University’s forty-four regional offices throughout the country.

Earlier, on the initiative of the Vice Chancellor, the AIOU established Accessibility Centers for visually impaired persons at its main campus and the regional offices. These centers served as a model for the rest of the educational institutions in the country as a mark of goodwill gesture towards the disadvantaged groups of the people.-Online
