ISLAMABAD – The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Pakistan Jean Francois Cautain on Thursday acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism and for regional peace and stability. “EU recognizes the challenges faced by Pakistan and appreciates the way Pakistan is responding to those challenges,” the ambassador while talking to the National Security Adviser Lt. General (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua whom in met in Islamabad and discussed matters pertaining to regional security situation with a particular reference to the adviser’s recent visit to Afghanistan. In the backdrop of Nasser Janjua’s recent visit to Afghanistan, the EU envoy sought his opinion on the issues of reconciliation and the internal political peace process in Afghanistan. The adviser explained the fragile security situation in Afghanistan at length. He also highlighted the complexities of the perpetual conflict in Afghanistan and underscored that a cooperative framework by all was direly needed to resolve conflict in Afghanistan. Lt. General (retd) Nasser Janjua stressed the need of making the best use of the peace offer made by the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. “It is first time in 16 years that the peace is being given a chance. Earlier everybody was investing in war. Let us all work together and invest in the peace this time,” he added. The envoy expressed his commitment to advance European Union’s contribution to deliver lasting peace and prosperity in Afghanistan and in the region. Both sides agreed that everyone has to contribute in seeking peace in Afghanistan which will enhance the regional security as well.
