Police request interior ministry to place killer US military attache s name on ECL

ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad Capital Territory police have forwarded a letter to the ministry of interior, requesting the inclusion of US military attache’s name – who rammed into a motorcyclist –  on Exit Control List (ECL).

In the letter, the police stated they have received information from well-placed sources that Emanuel would flee the country soon, however, the ministry headed by Ahsan Iqbal has yet to respond.

The communication relates to an accident involving US Defence and Air Attaché Colonel Joseph Emanuel who ran a red light at the intersection of Margalla Road and 7th Avenue and collided with a motorcyclist on Saturday, who later died.

The deceased was identified as Ateeq Baig. The 22-year-old youngster hailed from Talhar village in the Margalla Hills while his father works as a security guard at a govt school in Saidpur village.

The victim’s father in his complaint to the police stated that his son and nephew were coming from Daman-e-Koh side when they were hit by a land cruiser coming from F-8 side.

A traffic police official, who was on duty immediately responded to the accident and informed the local police, who arrived and took the US colonel and his car to the nearby Kohsar Police Station in F-7.

In a statement issued earlier, Islamabad police said they could not arrest Emanuel as the Vienna convention provided him immunity.
