Marriyum Aurangzeb opens up about PM Abbasi s censored media interaction

ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Marriyum Aurangzeb has explained that the comments by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqab Abbasi on Monday, were made in a press talk which was not meant to broadcast.

Talking to newsmen outside the accountability court, Marriyum expressed that government was not bound to broadcast press talk by the PM.

Earlier on Monday, it was hurriedly announced by the PM House that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will hold an important presser after the meeting of National Security Council to explain what was discussed in the high-profile meeting.

However, the PM Abbasi’s presser was not broadcast on national media, as well as state-owned Pakistan Television (PTV) and only statements of PM Abbasi were carried by leading media outlets.

PM Abbasi in his press talk had thrown weight behind Nawaz Sharif, saying that statement of the former prime minister was ‘misinterpreted’ in the media.

“A few sentences were blown out of proportion and context. I have clarified those,” he added.

When asked to comment on quitting, the PM said he will not resign nor is there any pressure on him to do so, adding that the government will complete its tenure.

During his national Assembly address today, the premier expressed that the statement of his predecessor Nawaz Sharif over Mumbai attacks was misreported, blaming Indian media for using it to its advantage.
