Imran Khan asks PM Nasirul Mulk to portray actual picture of electricity crisis

ISLAMABAD –  The Chairman of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf, Imran Kahn has demanded caretaker Prime minister Nasirul Mulk to explain the recent situation of electricity shortfall.

In a letter addressed to the caretaker PM, Imran Khan wrote that it was the responsibility of caretaker government to apprise the public of “actual picture” of load-shedding in the country.

The PTI supremo stated the public has the right to know whether the promises and claims by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government of having ended load-shedding were true or fabricated. ‘The government should tell the status of the Rs 500bn circular debt left by the PMLN govt,’ he added.

He further asserted that the nation should know who was responsible for the dismal situation of the power sector, adding that the former PM Abbasi has made huge claims of adding 10,000MW to national grid but the situation was still worse.

Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had earlier claimed that the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz government had added 10,000 megawatts (MWs) of electricity to the national grid.

About the energy projects initiated by PML-N led government, Abbasi claimed that 35 per cent surplus electricity, amounting to  6,000MWs, had been produced in 2018.

Abbasi noted that the country had the capacity to produce 28,400MWs electricity, adding that the big dams could only be built if there exists a national consensus on these mega projects.
