ISLAMABAD – The tremendous boost in transportation business was witnessed as political parties have started hiring vehicles for their campaigns for general elections scheduled for July 25.
The twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are bubbling with different political activities for that they need vehicles for rallies to continue their campaign.
The candidates have hired a large number of motor bikes, cars, vans, jeeps, buses etc. to mobilize voters by extending their presence to far-flung constituencies.
A candidate of NA 48 Sialkot, Nargis Faiz Malik said, the heavier vehicles are comfortable to travel but Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has placed an upper limit of Rs 4 million for expenditures to be incurred by a candidate on campaigning for general elections, so they have to cut short their expenses.
A political party worker Waseem Lateef said, transportation business has surged around five times this month, showing that rent a car owners charging Rs 1500 to 2000 for a small car and Rs 3500 to 5000 for the big luxurious car.
A transport service owner Asad Ali said, candidates and supporters prefer hiring the transport that is low in rent as candidates and their supporters use dozens of vehicles at a time for their electioneering activities.
He added that rents are different for different cars depending on their model and companies. This is purely rental profit, as the cost of maintaining the vehicle and keeping it fueled and ready is entirely the responsibility of the person who would hire it.–APP
