LAHORE – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) key woman candidate in Lahore, Dr Yasmin Rashid, again failed to trounce rival Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate in the general elections.
Rashid, who faced a defeat in NA-120 by-polls last year against former first lady Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, could not bag victory in NA-125 against PML-N’s Waheed Alam Khan.
According to unofficial results, Khan received 122,327 votes, defeating Rashid by 16,770 votes. The PTI candidate got 105,557 votes in the general elections.
On a nationwide scale, the party position is different as PTI is leading on 114 seats leaving behind PMLN which is racing to victory on 64 seats through the final results are yet to be announced.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has rejected the allegations of rigging, with the Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan contending that the practice was 100 percent transparent.
