Let’s talk about thin privilege

This viral thread on twitter made me question everything once again, in a society which is so conservative we still don’t forget to body shame girls growing up. Aunties at wedding will point out how they’ve put on weight or home remedies to shed some weight. Many girls around the globe get ‘thin privilege’.

”Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. Embrace your beauty.”

You must be wondering what that is, well it’s when people don’t judge you for the amount of food you eat, aunties won’t comment on your weight and most of all people won’t roll eyes at you in the mall for the way you look. All this because you are ‘thin’. The idea of ‘beauty’ ‘thin’ is all socially constructed with the help of mainstream media. Most of all by corporate companies to sell their products like shapers, gym deals, slimming products and etc.

“Feel comfortable in your own skin”

We should talk about body positivity just like we talk about racism, sexuality, diversity and gender as this issue is beyond all limits it is faced by girl, boys, women and even men equally. Such disturbing comments leave a void bringing the most negative thoughts to the receiver.
