LAHORE – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shahbaz was notified as the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly on Thursday.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Elahi issued a formal notification in this regard, putting an end to the anxiety faced by the party over the unusual delay.
According to well-placed sources, Hamza’s appointment hanged in limbo after the Assembly Secretariat had received a complaint about forged signatures on the nomination papers submitted by the PML-N members.
After probing into the matter and ensuring that signatures were not forged, the Punjab Assembly speaker proceeded with Hamza’s appointed, Geo News reported.
Hamza has taken the oath of a provincial assembly member for the first time after the recently held General Elections. His father, Mian Shehbaz Sharif had relinquished the provincial assembly seat to give tough time to the Imran Khan-led PTI government at the centre where he is serving as the Opposition Leader.
