Good news for winter-awaiting Pakistanis as govt postpones raise in gas prices

ISLAMABAD  – The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet further postponed the matter pertaining increase in gas prices on Monday.

A meeting under the chair of Finance Minister Asad Umar decided that the price of gas would not be increased rather a new subsidy system would be introduced, Information minister Fawad Ch said in a press briefing.

Additional discussions will be held with all stake holders on the matter and the price of gas will be set after getting suggestions from users, he added.

In the previous meeting, the ECC decided to take stringent actions against defaulters and power thieves.

It concluded to disconnect electricity connections of consumers who fail to pay bills for three months and to install prepaid electricity meters. It was also ascertained that an operational and financial audit of energy sector will be conducted.

Ch announced to import One lac ton of Urea fertilizer to fulfill the needs at the local level.
