LAHORE – Shamoon Abbasi and Sherry Shah starrer Durj’s trailer is finally launched. Shamoon had announced it long ago along with Gum, another film by Abbasi starring Sami Khan.
The trailer shows that is a very intense film as it tells a story of a cannibal. Shamoon said that there are basically three stories which merge into one.
Telling about his role in Durj, Abbasi shared that,”[The story for Durj] came to me two years ago when I read the news of two brothers in Punjab who would dig graves of fresh bodies, chop them up and eat them. They were caught and put behind bars but were released two years later.
He continued saying, “After their release, they started doing it again. They had a mental disorder and there’s is no medical record of these people. However, I did not include all this in the movie. I do not want my film to be gory or bloody, I kept in mind that Pakistani cinema is not into such movies so I kept it on a lighter note.”
He also believes that in future, his film would inspire filmmakers to come up with something different. “I think Pakistan needs more reality stories rather than copying films. It’s important to have different film genres come up if you want to develop a new [film] industry.”
Durj is based on a series of true events and will reveal the harsh reality of a man-eater, who is living in the deserts and avoiding the eyes of the intelligence and security services. Abbasi himself, the cannibal, also has a love interest, Sherry Shah, who happens to intrigue him to do more.
The trailer is not only intriguing, but it’s also quite dark and very unsettling. Not for people who cannot handle blood and murders.
