Pathankot Attack: Phone numbers provided by India ‘not registered in Pakistan’
ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) - Pakistan has completed initial investigation over the leads provided by India on Pathankot air base attack.

Sources told Daily Pakistan that the investigation report has been handed over to Indian authorities.

Authorities launched prompt investigation over the information provided by India and found the telephone numbers provided by India were not registered in Pakistan, sources added.

India had given numbers and phone intercept to Pakistan, believing the Pathankot attackers had been contact with their masterminds and facilitators through these numbers.

'Leads from India'

India had also claimed that the perpetrators were affiliated to banned outfit Jaish-e-Mohamamd.

The Indian media also shared the two numbers - 92-3017775253 and +92 3000597212 - claiming one of the first calls made by the terrorists to the latter was at 9.12 pm on December 31 from the phone of taxi driver Ikaagar Singh, whom they'd killed.

The terrorist repeatedly referred to the man on the other side as "ustaad", Times of India reported.

“Both are Pakistani numbers to which calls were made by the attackers after they entered India. The first number most probably belongs to the mother of one of the attackers while the second belongs to one of the handlers of the terrorists.

“In both cases, they used the phones of their victims, which the Indian investigators are now using to build a case and ascertain the identities of the six men,” the TOI cited Indian intelligence officials as saying.

'Joint Investigation Team'

On Monday, Indian media reported that Pakistani authorities carried out raids in Gujranwala, Jhelum and Bahawalpur districts and an unspecified number of people were arrested.

“Probe has been going to ascertain if they were involved in the attack or some of them facilitated it,” The Hindu quoted Indian officials as saying.

The arrests led Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to order a Joint Investigation Team of IB, Inter-Services Intelligence, Military Intelligence, Federal Investigation Agency and police to thoroughly probe the Pathankot attack links to Pakistan, the Indian media further claimed.

PM Nawaz has already assured his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi that a transparent investigation will be made and those involved will not be spared.
