‘She quit over NA-1 ticket’, PTI hits back after Gulalai’s resignation

ISLAMABAD – MNA Ayesha Gulalai quit Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) after she was denied ‘advance confirmation’ for the NA-1 constituency, claimed Deputy Information Secretary, Rana Nadeem Ahmed on Tuesday.

Ahmed alleged that Gulalai had been demanding an advanced confirmation for NA-1, a constituency that was given up by Imran Khan himself. However, he was not in a position to promise the constituency ahead of time.

“She threatened that she wanted the confirmation now otherwise she would join the rival party, PML-N,” Ahmed told Daily Pakistan.

The MNA also allegedly had a heated meeting with Khan yesterday over the matter.

Gulalai had cited ill-treatment of women in the party as the reason for her decision. She said that she had conveyed her grievances to the party leadership but no action was taken, forcing her to take the decision.

However, talking to Daily Pakistan, spokesperson PTI, Fawad Chaudhry denied Gulalai’s allegations saying the move is part of PML-N’s propagandist character vilification against Imran Khan.

“They have now resorted to their old tactics of character assassination. They also did it with Benazir Bhutto,” Fawad added.

Gulalai, who was elected to the NA on a reserved seat for women from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), has been a staunch and vocal supporter of the PTI and Imran Khan and often featured in prime time talkshows to defend party policies. Gulalai was also seen in PTI’s recent public event.

Following the resignation of MNA Ayesha Gulalai, PTI’s official Twitter account also tweeted pictures of the meeting held between the MNA and chairman Imran Khan.
