KARACHI – The outgoing Sindh government and opposition have selected the name of Fazlur Rehman, former chief secretary, as the caretaker chief minister of the province, local media reported.
Murad Ali Shah, the outgoing chief minister, and Khawaja Izharul Hassan, the opposition leader, held more than two hours long meeting and reached a consensus over the name of Rehman.
Rehman retired from service after serving as Sindh chief secretary from 2007 to 2010. Opposition parties had proposed Rehman’s name for the interim post, the sources added.
Rehman is likely to take oath as the caretaker chief minister today. The oath will be administered by Governor Sindh Mohammad Zubair.
The federal government and provincial governments of Punjab and Sindh stand dissolved yesterday night, paving way for the caretaker setup.
The 2018 general elections are set to be held on July 25.
