Iraq: Hundreds protest against corruption

BAGHDAD (Staff Report) – In Iraq, hundreds of demonstrators staged protests against increasing corrupt practices among government officials.

The protesters also urged government to end quotas and promote a merit based system.

On the occasion, the protesters climbed over Baghdad Green Zone for the first time. They stormed into parliament, carrying Iraqi flags and chanting against the government.

Meanwhile, Washington and the United Nations have warned that the political crisis could distract Iraq from the fight against the Islamic State militant group.
