GILGIT – The 70th Independence Day of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) is being celebrated with traditional zeal and fervour today.
On November 1, 1947, the people of Gilgit-Baltistan had revolted against Dogra Raj and liberated 72,000 square kilometres of geo-strategically located land.
The GB government has declared an official holiday on the occasion. The main function will be held in historic Chinar Bagh Yadgar-e-Shuhada.
Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Raj Jala Hussain, Chief Minister Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, Force Commander Northern Areas Major General Ehsan Mehmood along with civil and military officials and GB war veterans will attend the flag-hoisting ceremony.
The officials will lay floral wreaths at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada and offer Fatiha.
Gilgit-Baltistan now connects Pakistan with its all-weather friend China, Afghanistan and India.
