LHC grants protective bail to Hamza Shehbaz till Nov 13

LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday granted protective bail to Hamza Shehbaz, the son-in-law of former Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is facing inquiries initiated by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi heard the leader of the opposition in Punjab Assembly’s plea, stating that he feared that the NAB will arrest him.

Accepting Hamza’s plea, the court approved his protective bail till November 13 and ordered the NAB to not arrest him till the next hearing.

The high court has issued a notice to the anti-graft buster and summoned a reply on the plea.

Earlier this year, NAB had summoned Hamza in connection to the Punjab Saaf Pani Company case.

The PML-N leader and his brother are also facing inquiry pertaining to the illegal construction of a bridge for their sugar mills during the previous tenure of Shehbaz Sharif.

Both brothers had previously appeared before the NAB where they were interrogated for accumulating assets allegedly beyond known sources of income.
