PM Imran has applied for regularization of Bani Gala residence, SC informed

ISLAMABAD – Additional Attorney General Nayyar Abbas Rizvi has informed the Supreme Court that Prime Minister Imran Khan has applied for the regularization of his residence in Bani Gala.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar resumed hearing the suo motu case against illegal constructions in the Bani Gala suburbs of the federal capital on Thursday wherein the Additional Attorney General told the bench that the premier’s residence falls in Zone 3 and 4 of the area.

The official apprised the bench that there was neither any drainage system in the streets of the Bani Gala area, nor any provision for earthquakes.

Upon this, the chief justice expressed his annoyance at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for ratifying such constructions and remarked that he could not believe what was going on at the authority.

“Meting out justice isn’t just the duty of the courts, CDA should do something as well,” Justice Nisar remarked and wondered where was CDA when these constructions were taking place?.

The top judge told the CDA chairman that he lacked clarity and needed to conduct surveys first, directing the concerned officials to regularise the 65 applications received so far, and to prepare a master plan for the rest.

The court then adjourned the hearing for 10 days.

During a previous hearing of the case, the chief justice had directed the prime minister to regularise his property first or be ready to pay fine for his Bani Gala land – a hilltop estate used as a residence by the premier.

Bani Gala is a vast stretch of land in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad. The area also houses the home of incumbent premier, Imran Khan who now moves back and forth between his personal residence and the official residence – the home of the military secretary at the PM Secretariat.
