Asif Zardari hits out at CJP Nisar s raids in Karachi

KARACHI – Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari expressed on Saturday concerns over Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar’s surprise visits to private hospitals.

The comments of the former president came after the chief justice recovered bottles of liquor, drugs and cigarettes from the room of the Ziauddin Hospital, Karachi, where incarcerated PPP leader Sharjeel Memon was under treatment.

The chief justice also visited the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases where Anwar Majeed, a close aide of Zardari and suspect in the mega money laundering scandal is being treated for his illness.

Talking to reports during his appearance before a banking court in money laundering case, Zardari said: “What can we say in a country where the chief justice conducts raids.”

When a reporter asked that he had raised objection over the CJP’s whirlwind visits but not over the recovery of alcohol from Memon’s room, the newly elected lawmaker said that there is need to pursue the thousands of cases pending with the Supreme Court.

Zaradi also appeared before the court a day earlier when he secured interim bail in the case against surety bonds of Rs2 million and signed documents.
