Mean Persons : PTI s Dr Aamir Liaquat, PML-N s Abid Sher engage in poetic war on Twitter

KARACHI – Ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and major opposition party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) are often found trading barbs in the parliament but this war of words has now been taken to the social media.

Last week, PML-N’s president of youth wing Punjab Abid Sher Ali, who lost his seat to the PTI candidate in 2018 general election and also a strong critic of the incumbent government, shared two verses of Urdu poetry apparently taking aim at the PTI.

What he wrote on Twitter in Urdu can be translated as “Mean persons have become rulers and competent persons are being humiliated”

In response to the tweet, Dr. Aamir Liaquat Husain, also know as a TV personality, came forward to defend the apparent verbal attack on his party.

The translation of the PTI lawmaker’s verses is as, “Some worshippers [English meaning of word Abid] could not become devotees and devotees are surprised that sordid persons have become worshippers”.
