46 journalists killed in Pakistan in last five years

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – The federal interior ministry on Monday informed a parliament session that as many as 46 journalists have been killed in country during the last five years – 2010 to 2014 – while responding a question.

According to details 18 journalists were injured while 4 others went missing while pursuing their duties in Pakistan. The official figures do not match with those released by press freedom organizations however, the house was told.

34 journalists were gunned down in provinces Balochistan and Sindh alone whereas Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) was placed third in list where seven journalists were murdered in five years, the report added.

“The government has reaffirmed its resolve to take all necessary measures to ensure speedy investigation of all cases involving attacks on journalists and media-persons,” the minister for interior and narcotics, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, told the Parliament session.

Member Parliament Sheikh Salahuddin from Karachi representing Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had submitted ‘question for oral answer and reply’ with the National Assembly Secretariat in Islamabad.
