Two US army pilots killed in helicopter crash

CLARKSVILLE (Web Desk) – Two US Army pilots flying an Apache helicopter from Fort Campbell have died after their aircraft crashed during a routine training exercise in Tennessee.

The pilots, part of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), were flying the two-seat AH-64D Apache Wednesday night when the aircraft went down about 12 miles south of Fort Campbell, the US Army said in a statement.

Investigators from the US Army Combat Readiness Center were trying to determine the cause of the crash. The names of the pilots are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the UPI reported.

The helicopter was found crashed in a river bottom and was on fire when emergency crews arrived.
