ISLAMABAD – International Day of Persons with Disabilities is being observed today (Sunday) to promote the rights and well-being of special persons in all spheres of society.
The theme of the day this year is “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all”.
The day is also aimed to increase awareness of the situation of special persons in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad, First Lady Begum Samina Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says it is our collective responsibility to take measures for the welfare of special children.
She said the word “disability” should not be used for special children as they can be made useful citizens of the country.
She announced various steps for the welfare of the special children, according to the Radio Pakistan.
Begum Abbasi also announced the decision to include special children in Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme.
Earlier, addressing the ceremony, Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb said disability can be overcome through determination. She said parents play a key role to make special children as useful citizens of the society.
The minister said preference has been given to it in Prime Minister’s Educational Reforms Program.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said the proper legislation is being done for special persons in the Parliament.
