LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday stayed the demolition of the boundary walls of the Punjab Governor House.
Justice Mamoonur Rashid gave the ruling while hearing petitions filed against orders passed by Prime Minister Imran Khan to tear down the walls of the governor house.
“Not even a brick should remove from its place,” the judge ordered. He warned of strict action on razing the wall.
The Punjab government yesterday (Dec 2) started work to demolish the outer wall of the House to offer a clear view of the majestic colonial-era building to the public from The Mall.
As the work kicked off, the workers were seen removing the barbed wires installed on iron grills fixed on walls of the building.

The demolition was started a day after the premier had ordered bulldozing the boundary walls of the public office to convert it into a public park.
Provincial Information Minister Fayyazul Hasan Chohan speaking to media said that the premier had directed to demolish the walls immediately, adding that action in this regard will be started in next 48 to 72 hours.
The security officials have raised concerns over the decision while the electronic media claimed that the wall demolition and installation of iron grills would cost around Rs60 million.
The PTI government had earlier promised to turn several state buildings, including governor houses, into educational institutions, parks, hotels and museums.
Punjab Governor House, which covers around 700 kanals area, will be converted into a public park while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor House into a women’s park and a museum.
The Governor House at Nathiya Gali will become a hotel, while Balochistan Governor House will be converted into a park.
