ICCI for utilizing APC consensus for economic development

ISLAMABAD – Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry has appreciated the wise approach of parliamentary leaders for developing unanimity in the All-Party Conference to deal with terrorists effectively and stressed that the present national consensus should be fully utilized to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country once for all in order to establish peace and pave way for better economic development of the country.
Muzammil Hussain Sabri, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that terrorism has given a big blow to the national economy as Pakistan suffered huge human and economic losses as the country lost more than Rs.8264 billion during the past 13 years on account of this monster.
He said the terrorism has created multiple negative consequences for the country as it badly damaged the infrastructure, disturbed the normal trading activities, created disruptions in the production cycles, led to higher costs of doing business and caused significant delays in meeting the export orders as a result of which Pakistani products have gradually lost significant market share to their competitors.
He said the overall impact of terrorism proved very harmful as it created highly instable and unfavorable business environment, greatly slowed down economic growth, tarnished the image of the country, triggered huge capital flight from Pakistan and badly discouraged the local and foreign investment due to which the country could not achieve better economic development.
ICCI President said that the tragedy of Peshawar Army Public School has proved that if Pakistan has to survive and grow, there is no other option for the nation except to get united to make consensus efforts to purge the country of terrorism and militancy in order to establish peaceful environment.
He said business community fully supports the move of the government to develop national consensus on this key issue. He was of the view that elimination of terrorism would create conducive business environment in the country. It would facilitate smooth growth of business and economic activities, attract investment and pass on a peaceful, progressive and prosperous Pakistan to the coming generations.
