TARBELA – Two Chinese engineers and two others lost their lives when the shuttering collapsed during expansion work at Tarbela Dam in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Officials said that the incident took place while the workers were working at tunnel number 4 of Tarbela Dam as part of an expansion project, which is expected to increase its production capacity.
Two Chinese engineers and two local laborers were killed on the spot. The injured were shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
According to Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif the expansion work at the dam would add an additional 1410MW electricity to the national grid. The project is expected to be completed by June 2017.
Editor’s Note: Initially, it was reported that six Chinese engineers and two Pakistani workers have been killed in the tragedy. However, the information was dismissed by WAPDA officials.
