Transgender’s house set on fire over extortion money issue

PESHAWAR – Unidentified persons on Monday attempted to set a transgender persons house on fire in Peshawar after she refused to pay money to extortionists.

According to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Trans Action Alliance, Arzu, who is a government employee and a board member of the Transgender Alliance, had been receiving threatening phone calls which she had reported to the police.

She said the suspects had been demanding Rs 1 million in extortion money, following which they were arrested. However, after apprehending the suspects, the police refused to lodge an FIR and granted them bail, according to Express Tribune reported.

“The accused gave death threats to Arzu in front of the Station House Officer, however the police refused to take action,” Chairperson Trans Action Alliance Qamar Naseem claimed.
