Lyari gang war leader Ghaffar Zikri shot dead in police encounter

ISLAMABAD – The notorious Lyari gang war leader Ghaffar Zikri was shot dead in a police encounter, early Thursday.

The militant was killed along with three-year-old son and an accomplice, Chota Zahid, amid a crossfire with police in Ali Muhammad area of Karachi’s Lyari region.

DIG South Javed Alam Odho detailed that two police officials were also injured in the operation which lasted 90 minutes.

Revealing the details to media, Odho said the police along with law enforcement agencies conducted a search operation on a tip-off and during the operation, the gangsters fired at the police and hurled hand grenades.

“After 90 minutes, Zikri and his accomplice were killed,” Odho said and added that Zikri was using his son as a shield.

‘A sub-inspector was shot in the stomach and is said to be critical. The other police officer is also under treatment,’ DIG South said.

After the completion of the operation, the police sprung into action again to search for other accomplices in various neighborhoods of Lyari.

Zikri and his accomplice were one of the most wanted Lyari gang war leaders; as per police, he had been booked in several cases for involvement in heinous crimes.
