NAB raids Sharifs Lahore residence to arrest Hamza Shehbaz

LAHORE –The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has conducted a raid at the residence of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and opposition leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif’s residence, 96 H-Model Town in Lahore.

According to media reports, both Shehbaz and Hamza Sharif are present at the residence at the time the raid was conducted.

Shehbaz Sharif’s guards exchanged harsh words with the NAB team on the occasion and stopped the team outside the residence.

However, the officials left without arresting anyone due to severe resistance.

Hamza Shahbaz is expected to address a press conference shortly.

PML-N Spokesman Malik Ahmed Khan claimed that the officials of anti-corruption watchdog conducted the raid at 96-H Model Town house without search warrant which is against the law. He said that the incumbent government has turned entire country into a police state.

The PML-N leader Marriyum Aurangzeb has also claimed that the raid was conducted without any warning and stressed that the NAB was unable to prove any sort of corruption.

According to media reports, the NAB authorities have claimed that they have search and arrest warrants to conduct the raid.

A day earlier, the government had issued the notification for the removal of PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif’s name from the ECL.

The home department had issued the notification for the removal of the name of the opposition leader in National Assembly following the Lahore High Court’s order.

The LHC had issued the direction for the same on March 26 on a plea against putting Shehbaz name on the exit control list. The government had placed the name of Shehbaz on ECL list on February 21.

Earlier, NAB had decided to file a reference against Hamza Shahbaz for his alleged role being chief executive of the Ramzan Sugar Mills to construct a bridge facilitating his mills out of the public money in Chiniot.

Hamza Shahbaz is also facing assets beyond income case and Saaf Pani Scandal.
