Suicide blast in Madina attack on Islam: UN Human Rights Chief

GENEVA – The United Nations’ Human Rights chief has termed a suicide blast outside Madina’s Masjid-e-Nabvi an attack on Islam.

In a statement, High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein said that Madina is one of the holiest sites of Islam and an attack at such a sacred place was a direct attack on Muslims all across the world.

“This is an attack on the followers of Islam and on the religion itself,” the statement issued from Geneva said.

On Monday, as many as three suicide attacks had targeted Madina, the US consulate in Jeddah and the city of Qatif. At least four security officers were killed in the blasts.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the blasts but Islamic State is one of the top suspects for the terrorist acts in Saudi Arabia.
