GHOTKI – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Mian Abdul Bari Pitafi clinched victory in the by-poll held for the PS-7 constituency in Mirpur Mathelo, Ghotki, according to unofficial results.
Pitafi defeated Pakistan Muslim League – Functional’s (PML-F) Mian Majan.
Pitafi secured 48,114 votes while Majan got 36,986 votes, according to unofficial results.
A tough contest was expected between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Mian Abdul Bari Pitari and Pakistan Muslim League – Functional’s (PML-F) Mian Majan.
Polling for by-elections in Ghotki’s PP-7constituency was started at 8 am and continued to 5 pm on Monday.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Pakistan Peoples Party’s Sardar Ahmad Ali Pitafi. He won the provincial assembly seat from PS-7 Ghotki for the fourth time during the last general elections in 2013.
Seven candidates are taking part in the election, while a tough competition is expected between Pakistan Peoples Party’s Bari Khan Pitafi and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional’s (PML=F) Maja Mian.
PPP’s angry workers, including MNA Sardar Ali Gohar Mahar, Sardar Rahim Bux Bozdar and Mahar community is supporting PML-F candidate due to conflict with party leadership.
Total registered voters in the constituency are 179,843, while 164 polling stations have been set up in the area amid tight security.
Around 103 polling stations have been declared sensitive. 3500 security personnel, including Sindh police, Rangers and Pakistan Army, have been deployed.
